Overview
Harbourview Legal’s new office featured full-height glass walls along corridors and around meeting rooms. While the openness and natural light were attractive, the partners quickly realized:
Conversations in meeting rooms felt too exposed,
Staff working near the corridors felt like they were “on display,”
There was no visual separation between public and private zones.
They needed a solution that would:
Provide privacy at seated and standing eye level,
Preserve light and openness,
Align with their brand and interior design,
Be quick to install with minimal disruption.
Architectural Fusion Finishes was brought in to design and execute a decorative glass privacy solution using high-quality film and a custom pattern.
The Challenge
Balance privacy and openness: The client didn’t want solid frosting from floor to ceiling. They wanted privacy where it mattered—around eye level—without making rooms feel boxed in.
Visual consistency: The same film treatment needed to work across different widths of glass, corner conditions, and door lights, and still look intentional.
Brand-appropriate design: As a legal firm, the look needed to be professional, understated, and timeless, not trendy or distracting.
Minimal disruption: The office was already occupied, so installation needed to be clean, quiet, and staged around meetings.
Our Approach & Solution
Site review & design concept
Measured key glass areas: office fronts, boardroom glazing, and corridor sidelights.
Reviewed the firm’s logo, color palette, and interior finishes (wood, stone, textiles).
Proposed a horizontal privacy band concept with a soft geometric pattern: privacy in the center band, clear glass above and below to keep sightlines and light.
Mock-ups & client approval
Produced small-scale mock-ups of the frosted film and pattern on sample glass.
Tested opacity and pattern density at both daylight and evening conditions.
Adjusted the scale of the design so it felt subtle from a distance but still read as intentional up close.
Fabrication of the film
Used a high-quality frosted film with a printed / plot-cut design (matching the look shown in your photos).
Standardized band heights so they could be repeated across multiple glass modules, even if the glass widths changed.
Phased installation
Scheduled installation during off-peak hours and between meetings.
Worked in sections—one corridor, then one cluster of offices—to keep disruption to a minimum.
Protected adjacent flooring and furniture; left each area clean and ready-to-use after installation.
Materials & Methods
Film Type
Premium architectural frosted film (privacy film) with a custom pattern.
Designed to mimic etched glass while allowing for future removal or rebranding if needed.
Design Features
Horizontal privacy band across seated and standing eye level in meeting rooms.
Subtle patterning within the frosted band to add interest and reduce direct sightlines.
Clear reveal above and below the band to preserve openness and visual connection.
Installation Details
Precision cuts to align bands from panel to panel across long runs of glass.
Clean finishing at edges, door hardware, and corners.
On-site adjustments to account for small variances in glass size and framing.
Results & Impact
Effective privacy where it matters: Meetings and client conversations now feel appropriately discreet—passersby see movement and light, but not clear details.
Brighter, more cohesive space: The film treatment ties together the various glass elements and corridors, making the office look designed rather than “accidental.”
Brand-aligned aesthetics: The patterned privacy band adds just enough visual interest while staying in line with a professional, high-trust brand.
Happy staff and leadership: Staff feel less exposed, and partners report that clients comment positively on the “clean, modern” look of the space.
Future flexibility: Because the solution is film-based rather than permanent etching, the firm can update patterns, branding, or privacy levels in the future without replacing glass.
